GUN FURY

Lunes, 27 de octubre de 2025:

I watched the following movies in a Japanese-style room at night.

Recording is done on an external HDD connected to a DIGA (Panasonic DMR-BRW520 Blu-ray recorder, manufactured in 2017).

The program aired on March 8, 2024, from 1:00 PM on NHK BS101. It was the Premium Cinema showing of "Gun Fury" (1953, USA. Original language: English. Japanese subtitles).

It was interesting. The appeal of Westerns from this era lies in the rough and intense fight scenes filmed on location. They were doing incredibly dangerous filming that would be unthinkable today. It's surprising that there weren't any deaths or people suffering from paralysis or other serious injuries. If they tried to do the same thing today, there would be a constant stream of injured actors, stuntmen, and horses, leading to frequent lawsuits. I wonder if insurance would even cover it.

"I learned one thing. People grow from negative experiences." (The protagonist).

Slayman, the leader of the outlaw gang, is described as a terrifying man, comparable to Billy the Kid and Sam Bass, but for an outlaw from the South in the immediate aftermath of the Civil War, his attitude towards women seemed rather lenient. Though, in a film from that era, anything more would probably have been impossible...
