Actually, modern Kyudo is dominated by the front-facing uchioki technique, which is based on the ceremonial archery originally practiced by nobles.
It's very different from the archery used in warfare during the Sengoku period.
I think most books on the history of Kyudo will explain this.
By the way, during the Sengoku period, archery was apparently closer to what we now call slant-shooting uchioki.
Of course, each region had its own style, so it's hard to generalize.

Kyudo is about teaching the way of the bow, not about fighting.
If you still want to fight, then say it's archery.
