 I didn't know the meaning of "bastards," so I looked it up in the dictionary. 

 There were various answers regarding its etymology, including Irish, Old French, and Middle English. 

 The meaning is "insulting terms of address for people who are stupid, irritating, or ridiculous."

 Mr. Trump's social media posts are filled with vulgar slang almost daily, so for me, it's a good way to learn American slang. I don't know what use it will be after President Trump leaves office, though...

 President Trump extended the 48-hour negotiation deadline (which was today) by one day.

 He likely wants to avoid deploying ground troops into Iranian territory, so he's repeatedly postponing the negotiation deadline while using intensely threatening and insulting language on social media, seemingly searching for an "exit strategy."

 He's apparently giving a speech tomorrow, April 7th.

 In this situation, he's been dismissing army officers and cabinet members one after another, and is reportedly making statements that seem to shift the blame to the Secretary of Defense and the Vice President.

 It seems that his behavior is becoming increasingly similar to that of the Russian president or the Chinese president.
